Sophomore Jordan Walters, freshman Sawyer Duncan, junior Ethan Asher, and sophomore Robert Bruner all posted undefeated singles records to lead the men's tennis team at the Davidson/Jim Causey Invitational this weekend. Hosted by Davidson, Southern Conference rival Appalachian State also attended the tournament, as well as UNC Charlotte.
Playing at the number two singles position, Walters defeated Michael Anders of Charlotte 4-6, 6-2 (10-5) on Friday, then downed Eric Noble of Davidson (6-3, 6-4) and Trent Constance of Appalachian State (6-4, 6-4) on Saturday.
Freshman Duncan, playing at no. four singles, began play by beating Jesse Hutchinson of Charlotte 6-1, 6-1, then continued on to top Davidson's Sam Burns 6-3, 6-2 and App State's Lee Floyd 6-3, 6-2.
Despite three close matches, Junior Asher also went undefeated in singles play, downing Alex Glass of Charlotte 2-6, 6-2, (10-6), Davidson's Aric Hefter (6-3, 3-6, (10-8)), and App State's Britton Webb (6-2, 3-6, (11-9)).
In doubles play, Jason Basile and Daniel Knause teamed up to go 2-0 over the weekend, while Duncan and Walters also added two wins for the Paladins. Basile/Knause defeated Noble/Compeau of Davidson 8-6 and Constance/Jacobs of Appalachian State 9-8 on Saturday.
Overall, the men posted an 8-3 doubles record, including four straight wins over Appalachian State, and a combined 15-8 singles record for the weekend.
