College of Charleston Edges Out Paladins, 4-3, in Semifinal Match

Charleston, S.C. - A three-set Cougar victory at number two singles pushed College of Charleston to a 4-3 win over the Furman men's tennis team in the semifinals of the 2007 Southern Conference Tournament at The Earle Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Paladins' season comes to an end with an overall record of 17-11. CofC (18-1) advances to Sunday's championship match against top-seeded Elon.

Furman's Andy Juc and Scott Kahler opened the match with an 8-0 win at number three doubles, but Cougar tandems at number one and two earned victories to give College of Charleston the doubles point. Juc and Kahler close out the season with a 20-6 record.

The Paladins evened the score with Daniel Knause's 6-1, 6-2 win over Steven Myers at number five singles. CofC pushed ahead with victories at flights three and four. Furman knotted the score at three points apiece with singles wins at number one and six. No. 86 Andy Juc posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over Or Dekel at the top position and rookie Jordan Walters earned a 6-4, 7-6 defeat over Perry Allen at flight six. In the final match of the afternoon, Marcos DiGliodo put CofC in the championship match with his 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 victory over sophomore Bo Ladyman.

Furman says goodbye to four seniors in Brian Crook, Ryan Friend, Chris Gilli and Scott Kahler.
