Greenville, S.C. - The Furman men's tennis team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 6-1 victory over the visiting the South Carolina State Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center. The Paladins (14-10) have won eight of their last nine matches.

"South Carolina State has an excellent team," commented head coach Paul Scarpa. "We were not sure how we would respond coming out of Easter break and a couple days off, but the guys were up to the challenge."

Wins at number one and three doubles gave Furman the early 1-0 advantage in the match. Bo Ladyman and Brian Crook cruised to an 8-1 victory over Ionut Hurduc and Radek Pivonka at the top position. Andy Juc and Scott Kahler were victorious once again, earning their 17th win of the season with an 8-6 win that clinched the doubles point for the Paladins.

Singles action was highly competitive, with Furman needing three extra-set wins to take home the match. After the Bulldogs earned a quick win at number six, Furman's Chris Gilli won his eighth consecutive match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Parantap Chaturvedi at number four to put the Paladins ahead for good. Ladyman posted a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Dimitry Lomakin at number two. Juc rebounded from a loss in the second set to post a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win over Hurduc at the top position. Juc has won eight of his last nine matches. Andy Sobczyk and Daniel Knause both overcame first-set losses to post victories at number three and five, respectively.

Furman will head up the road to Wofford for its final regular-season road match of the season on Thursday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m.
