Greenville, S.C. - The Furman men's tennis team won all but one singles match in a 6-1 defeat of the visiting UC Riverside Highlanders on Thursday afternoon in Mickel Tennis Center. Furman (11-9) has won its last five matches while the Highlanders (9-7) have dropped four straight decisions. The match was played indoors due to inclement weather.

The Paladins won the doubles point for the third consecutive time with victories at number two and three. Senior Scott Kahler and sophomore Andy Juc knocked off Pedraum Rouhafza and Jack Tadevosian, 8-3. The duo has won nine of its last 11 matches, including four straight. Furman's 57th-ranked tandem of Bo Ladyman and Brian Crook defeated Jordan Peana and Bobby Tam, 8-4, to secure the doubles point for the Paladins.

In singles action, Furman's Andy Sobczyk quickly ousted Gorjan Kovacevic, 6-2, 6-0, at flight three. Juc, who has won five consecutive matches, defeated Mark Contreras, 6-4, 6-2, at flight one. Daniel Knause, Chris Gilli and Jordan Walters posted straight-set wins at number four, five and six, respectively. Walters has now won his last six matches, Gilli his last five and Knause his last four.

"Despite some injuries, we played really well today against a very good team," commented Gilli. "This was the first indoor match we had to play here at home, but we were up to the challenge."

The Paladins begin a three-match road trip this weekend, starting with a bout at The Citadel on Saturday, March 31 at noon.
