Men's Tennis Sweeps Through UNC Greensboro

Greenville, S.C. - The Furman men's tennis team did not lose a match as it picked up its fourth straight win with a 7-0 victory over the visiting UNC Greensboro Spartans on Sunday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center. The Paladins improve to 10-9 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Conference. UNCG (5-11, 0-6) has now dropped six of its last seven matches and has not yet managed a conference victory.

The Paladins picked up the doubles point with wins in all three matches. Chris Gilli and Jordan Walters paired for their third straight victory, defeating Jason Steinhorn and William Adeimy, 8-3, at flight three. Andy Juc and Scott Kahler remained undefeated in league action with an 8-5 win over Ian Conchar and Martin Redelinghuys at number two. Ryan Friend and Andy Sobczyk completed the sweep with an 8-6 mark against Andrey Bubnov and Arsel Kumdereli at the top position.

Furman rolled through singles play in similar fashion, winning all six matches in straight sets. Gilli, who has won his last three matches, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Conchar at flight three. At number two, Daniel Knause had little trouble with Redelinghuys, posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory for his fourth win in a row. Michal Kociecki won his third consecutive match with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Steinhorn. Juc won his tenth match of the year, defeating Bubnov 6-0, 6-4 at number one, and Friend stepped into singles play today and posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Adeimy.

The Paladins close out their homestand with back-to-back matches against UC Riverside (3 p.m.) and UNC Asheville (7:15 p.m.) on Thursday, March 29.
