Men's Tennis Dominates Georgia Southern, 6-1

Greenville, S.C. - After sweeping all three doubles matches to take the early advantage, the Furman men's tennis team took five of the six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over the visiting Georgia Southern Eagles in Saturday afternoon Southern Conference tennis action. Furman's (9-1, 2-1) Jordan Walters won his fourth consecutive match, needing a tiebreaker to beat GSU's Philip Prins. With the loss, the Eagles fell to 4-12 overall, 1-4 in the league.
The Paladins opened the day with three doubles wins. Walters and Chris Gilli teamed up for an 8-3 win over Matthew Sands and Neil Shine at flight three. Andy Juc and Scott Kahler won their 11th match of the season with an 8-4 defeat of Joris De Weerdt and Borja Malet at number two. Ryan Friend and Andy Sobczyk secured the doubles sweep with an 8-5 mark against Emmanuel Nkoueleue and Philip Prins.
Furman continued to dominate play in the singles matches. At number one, Juc defeated De Weerdt, 6-1, 6-0 to remain undefeated in conference action. Gilli breezed by Sands, 6-1, 6-2, at number four. Mike Kociecki posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Malet at flight six. Daniel Knause also pulled out a straight-set win over Nkoueleue, 6-3, 7-6 (5) at number two.
The Paladins will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon when they challenge UNC Greensboro at Mickel Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
