Paladin Netters Get First Conference Win of the Year

After losing the doubles point, the Furman men's tennis team battled back to win five of the six singles matches and defeat the Davidson Wildcats, 5-2, at Mickel Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. Furman improves to 7-9 overall, 1-1 in the league, while Davidson falls to 6-10 and 1-3 in SoCon action.
The Paladins opened play with an 8-5 win by Andy Juc and Scott Kahler over Phillip Compeau and Eric Noble at number three doubles. But, Davidson battled out 8-6 victories at number one and two doubles to earn the first point of the match.
In singles action, sophomore Andy Juc quickly evened the score with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Flaviu Simihaian. Senior Chris Gilli put the Paladins on top for good with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ethan Jaffee at flight four. Straight-set wins at position three and six clinched the match for the home team. Furman freshman Jordan Walters also earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Sam Burns at position five to give the Paladins the 5-2 win.
Furman continues its six-match home stand with a bout against Charlotte on Wednesday, March 21 at 3 p.m.
