Men's Tennis Drops Conference Opener to Elon

Greenville, S.C. - The Furman men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Elon Phoenix in the Southern Conference season-opener on Sunday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center. Elon (11-2, 1-0) have beaten the Paladins (6-8, 0-1) in each of the last two meetings and shared the SoCon regular-season crown with Furman last year.

Furman won two of the three doubles matches to take the early advantage in the match. At flight three, Andy Juc and Scott Kahler posted an 8-2 win over Austin Fenn and Sebastian Bredberg. Juc and Kahler have won seven straight matches. Ryan Friend and Andy Sobczyk sealed the point with an 8-6 victory over Anuwat Dalodom and Gustaf Asplund at number two.

The Paladins managed only one singles victory, that coming from Juc the number one spot. Juc, who has won four of his last five matches, topped Damon Gooch, 6-3, 6-2. Elon won the final five singles matches in straight sets to take home the league win.

Furman will challenge Indiana University on Thursday, March 15 at 10 a.m. The match will be played on the campus of Clemson University.
