No. 40 Vanderbilt Defeats Furman Men's Tennis, 5-2

Nashville, Tenn. - Playing its third opponent in as many days ranked in the top 40, the Furman men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the No. 40 Vanderbilt Commodores (6-4) on Tuesday afternoon at Currey Tennis Center. Furman falls to 5-7 with the loss.

The Paladins had the chance to win the doubles point. Vanderbilt's Ryan Preston and Evan Dufaux opened play with an 8-2 victory over Bo Ladyman and Brian Crook at flight one. Furman evened the competition with an 8-6 win by Andy Juc and Scott Kahler at number three. The Commodores Jordan Magarik and Andy Mack secured the first point of the match with a hard-fought 9-8 win over Ryan Friend and Andy Sobczyk.

Furman took victories at number one and three singles, but Vanderbilt's Nik Cromydas brought home the win with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ladyman at number two. Juc earned a straight-set win over Preston at flight one, and Sobczyk defeated Dufaux 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (4) at flight three.

The Paladins will have a break before they travel to Georgia Tech on March 9 for a 2:30 bout with the Yellow Jackets.
