#15 Florida Too Much for Furman Men's Tennis

Feb. 2, 2007

Gainesville, Fla. - The Furman men's tennis team made its second trip to Florida in as many weeks, this time to challenge the fifteenth-ranked Florida Gators. The host Gators were too much for the Paladins, posting a 6-1 victory over the visitors at Linder Stadium on Friday afternoon. Furman fell to 1-3 overall, while Florida remained undefeated at 2-0.

The Gators quickly took a 1-0 advantage into singles play after sweeping the three doubles matches. Greg Ouellette and Jesse Levine topped Paladin senior Brian Crook and sophomore Bo Ladyman, 8-3, at the top position. At number three, Dan Cash and Geoffrey Barton sealed the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over senior-sophomore pair, Scott Kahler and Andy Juc.

In singles, senior Chris Gilli picked up Furman's only point of the match. Gilli, still undefeated in singles competition this season, fell behind a set to Florida's Dan Cash at the number six position. Gilli battled back to win the match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Furman continues its lengthy road trip when it heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to challenge the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m.
