GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will renew its rivalry with Appalachian State Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
Over the years, Furman has been very successful on its home court. During the past 16 seasons, the Paladins have lost only 31 matches on their home court, posting an impressive record of 131-31 since 2002.
Saturday's match marks the 50th meeting between the two schools. The Paladins, who lead the series 43-5-1, defeated the Mountaineers, 4-3, in Boone in 2014.
Furman enters the contest riding a five-match winning streak. The Paladins hold a 6-3 overall record and 1-0 Southern Conference mark after beating The Citadel, 6-1, Saturday to open the SoCon season, then defeating Davidson, 6-1, on Sunday.
Sophomore Ivan Mitric, who was honored as last week's SoCon Player of the Week, is ranked 104th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Singles Rankings. Junior Jake Bhangdia boasts a 6-1 singles record at flight four, and sophomore Drew Singerman is 7-0 in singles play.
Appalachian State comes to Greenville with a 1-5 record. The Mountaineers defeated North Carolina A&T, 4-0, in January, and most recently lost to East Carolina, 4-0, on February 10.
