Furman Wins Both Matches Of Double Header, 7-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman defeated both USC Upstate and North Greenville, each 7-0, Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

Furman swept the doubles matches in each match.  Versus the Spartans, sophomore Ivan Mitric and junior Jake Munns blanked Ankush Arora and Lucas Percy, 6-0, at flight one, and juniors Jake Bhangdia and Clarke Wilson topped Luka Eble and Francisco Neto, 6-2, at flight two.  At number three, sophomores Henrik Atlevi and Drew Singerman defeated Fernando Bernardes and Frederick Sydow, 6-2.

The Paladins won all six singles matches, five in straight sets.  Mitric, who is ranked 117th nationally, downed Arora, 6-0, 6-3, in the top-seeded contest, and Munns beat Neto, 6-4, 6-4, at flight two.  Wilson came from behind for a 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (3) advantage over Eble at number three, and Bhangdia blew past Percy, 6-1, 6-2, at number four.  At flight five, Atlevi held off Bernardes, 6-2, 7-5, and Singerman completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sydow at flight six.

Against the Crusaders, Munns and Mitric defeated Pierre Bedard and Robin van der Heijde, 6-2, at flight one doubles, and Bhangdia and Wilson topped Kaey-Den Tan and Francisco Tico, 6-3, at flight two.  At number three, freshman James Roelofse teamed with senior Alex Steryous for a 6-1 victory over Giacomo Garini and Yannis Moulod.

Furman won each of the six singles matches, five again in straight sets.  Munns moved to flight one, where he defeated Bedard, 6-3, 6-2, and Bhangdia scored a 6-2, 6-1 win versus van der Heijde at flight two.  In the number three match-up, Atlevi outlasted Tan, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0(9), and Singerman bested Garini, 6-0, 6-1, at number four.  Roelofse beat Tico, 6-0, 6-1, at flight five, and Steryous posted a 6-2, 6-2 advantage over Moulod at flight six.

Furman (4-3) hits the road for two matches next weekend.  The Paladins will play at the Citadel on Saturday at 1 p.m. then travel to Davidson Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest.
