GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will travel to Nashville, Tenn., this weekend to play at Lipscomb and Belmont. The Paladins will square off versus Lipscomb on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT then will play at Belmont Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.
The Paladins (1-2) blanked South Carolina State, 7-0, on January 22 in the team's spring opener before losing to Charlotte, 5-2, last Friday. On Sunday, Georgia Tech defeated Furman, 7-0, in the Paladins' road opener.
Friday's match marks the first meeting between Furman and Lipscomb. The Bisons are 1-2 after beating Austin Peay, 7-0, and losing to Louisville, 5-1, and UAB, 4-3, earlier in January.
Furman defeated Belmont, 5-2, last season in Greenville in the only other meeting between the Paladins and Bruins. Belmont (4-2) has early season wins over Southern Utah, Martin Methodist, Dayton, and Xavier.
The Paladins return seven players from last season's team that posted a 19-8 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Southern Conference play. Furman head coach Kelly Jones guided the team to the finals of the league tournament in 2018 for the fourth time in five years.
Furman's Ivan Mitric was honored as the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year in 2018, while senior Jake Munns earned an all-conference first team citation for doubles. Mitric was also named to the 2018 SoCon All-Freshman Team.
