GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Ivan Mitric is ranked 76th nationally in the latest 2018 Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I men's singles poll, which was released this week by the organization.
Mitric, a sophomore from Toronto, Ontario, reached the round of 16 in the main singles draw at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships in October, picking up a win over Oliver Palmer of UNCG, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, in the first round and beating Wake Forest's Melios Efstathiou, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(6) in the round of 64. In round three, Mitric defeated Gardner Webb's Millen Hurrion, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Early in November, Mitric, who was honored as the 2018 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, beat Michael Copeland of UNCW, 6-3, 7-5, at the UNCW Team Invite.
"Ivan worked very hard this past summer and fall on and off the court, maturing both physically and mentally," said Furman head caoch Kelly Jones. "All the hard work is paying off! To be ranked #76 is a nice achievement and well deserved."
