Junior year (2017-18): Steryous was a perfect 5-0 in singles play and 2-4 in doubles action. He played at flight two versus North Greenville, recording a 6-1, 6-2 win, and moved to flight five for his lone SoCon match, a 6-3, 6-2 victory over The Citadel. At flight six, Steyous claimed wins over Presbyterian, Belmont, and Gardner Webb. In doubles action, Steryous teamed with Jake Bhangdia for victories against Presbyterian and College of Charleston. Steryous was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Sophomore year (2016-17): Steryous recorded an 11-12 overall record and 4-3 SoCon mark in singles play. He played throughout the middle of the singles lineup and settled in primarily at flights four and five, posting a four-match winning streak versus North Greenville, Erskine, Presbyterian, and Liberty. Later in the season, Steryous again won four-straight over Duquesne, Samford, The Citadel, and Wofford. Other key wins included a come from behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at Harvard to open the season and a 7-5, 6-4 advantage over UNC Greensboro. Steryous teamed primarily with Cameron Green in doubles, playing mostly at flight two. The Paladin duo notched a 12-10 overall record and 3-4 mark in SoCon play. Steryous and Green defeated Mercer, 7-6, then beat #35 Georgia State, 6-3, to close out the regular season before scoring a 6-4 SoCon Tournament victory versus Mercer. Steryous also combined with Jake Bhangdia for a 6-2 victory over North Greenville.
Freshman year (2015-16): Steryous teamed up with Cameron Green to earn All-Southern Conference second team honors for doubles. In singles action, Steryous recorded a 6-15 overall record and 2-5 SoCon mark. He posted non-conference wins versus UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Gonazaga, and Elon. Steryous opened SoCon play with wins over Chattanooga and the Citadel. He tallied an 11-10 overall doubles record and 5-2 league mark, playing mostly at flight two. Green and Alex Steryous put together a six-match winning streak in March, beating USC Upstate, UC Irvine, Gonazaga, Chattanooga, the Citadel, and UCF. The Paladin duo scored SoCon Tournament victories over UNCG and Samford.
Prep/Personal: A four-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, Alex Steryous competed under coach Alexander George at Greer Middle College. The second-ranked player in South Carolina, he ranked among the top 35 players in the South. James Alex Steryous was born on July 10, 1997, in Taylors, S.C. to Todd and Lena Steryous. His brother, Adam, played on the Furman tennis team from 2013-17. He plans to study business.
