GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman junior Jake Munns captured Southern Conference men's tennis player of the month honors, as announced Friday by the league office.
Munns combined to go 13-2 in singles and doubles action in the month of March. At flight two singles, Munns dropped his first match of the month 6-4, 7-5 to Loic Blanco of Stetson but rebounded with three straight wins, including a win over Sami Kirberg of NCAA Division II No. 14 Rollins, 6-1, 6-3. His only other loss for the month came at the hands of ETSU's Juan Lugo 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Munns followed with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Chattanooga's Simon Bustamante, UNCG's Marcus Vidgren 6-4, 6-2 and Charlotte's Benjamin Wayand 6-4, 6-1. At the No. 1 doubles spot, the Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, native paired with Cameron Green to go 7-0 in March. Along with non-conference wins over Stetson, No. 14 Rollins, Valparaiso, USC Upstate and Charlotte, Munns and Green downed SoCon opponents ETSU 6-2, Chattanooga 6-1 and UNCG 6-1.
Others nominated: Sergi Fontcuberta (ETSU), Sam Philp (Mercer), Connor Thompson (UNCG), Luke Plaisted (Chattanooga) and Omar Williams (Wofford).
