GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Jake Munns has been named the Southern Conference men's tennis player of the week for all matches played March 6-12, the conference announced Tuesday. The Paladins were 2-1 last week as a team, defeating Rollins and Valparaiso during Furman's spring break trip to Florida.
Munns, a junior from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, posted a 2-1 record at the No. 2 singles position last week. Munns scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over Rollins' Sami Kirberg and capped off his singles play with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Valparaiso's Kweisi Kenvatte. His lone loss came to Stetson's Loic Blanco.
Munns was 2-0 at the No. 2 doubles spot during last week's competition. Munns teamed with Cameron Green to defeat Stetson's Colter DeCoste and Coilin MacNamara, 6-3. The Paladin duo also beat Rollins' Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo Nicolas, 6-2.
Furman (11-4) opens a four-match home stand on Wednesday when the Paladins entertain USC Upstate at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
