GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Cameron Green has been named the Southern Conference men's tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 6-12, the conference announced Tuesday. Green went 2-1 at No. 1 singles last week and was 2-2 at flight two doubles with teammate Drew Singerman. The Paladins, who are 6-1 this season, hold a four-match win streak after defeating UNC Asheville, 5-2, Sunday.
A senior from Sydney, Australia, Green opened the week with a three-set loss to Alexander Lykou of Presbyterian on Wednesday, falling 6-2, 4-6, 3-6. He rebounded with two wins in two days, beginning with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over College of Charleston's Benedikt Henning on Saturday. Green followed with a victory on Sunday over UNC Asheville's Henry Patten, downing the No. 32-ranked player in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles competition, Green finished the week 2-2 as the Paladin's No. 2 pair defeated duos from Presbyterian (6-2) and North Greenville (6-2) and fell to College of Charleston (6-2) and UNC Asheville (6-4).
Furman continues its seven-match home stand with two matches on Saturday. The Paladins will face Belmont at noon and open the SoCon season versus The Citadel at 4 p.m.
