Furman defender Jon Leathers was named to the NSCAA/adidas Division I All-America second team and fellow Paladin senior Shea Salinas was tabbed third team NSCAA/adidas All-America, it was announced this weekend.
Leathers, who earned NSCAA All-South Region honors earlier this week, garnered Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year honors for the second straight year and was named to the All-SoCon first team for the third straight season.. The Athens, Ga., native also earned College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer All-America honors this month.
The 2006-07 Furman Male Athlete-of-the-Year and member of the U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team, helped Furman to a 19-4-0 record this season. The Paladins captured both the SoCon regular season and tournament titles while also advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Salinas, a two-time first team All-SoCon pick, garnered NSCAA All-South Region honors in each of the last two seasons. The midfielder from Grapevine, Texas, tallied five goals and added nine assists as a senior and joined Leathers among the 54 players invited to attend the 2008 adidas MLS Player Combine next month.
