Trio of Paladin Soccer Standouts Named All-Southern Conference
Nov. 9, 2004
GREENVILLE, S.C. -
Furman's Alex Maslow, Josh Villalobos and Jon Leathers were named second team All-Southern Conference as voted by the league's coaches, the SoCon office announced on Tuesday.
Maslow, a senior goalkeeper and 2003 All-SoCon pick, posted a 1.07 goals against average while compiling 87 saves during the 2004 season. The Charlotte, N.C., native allowed in just 18 goals all season and recorded four shutouts.
Midfielder Josh Villalobos recorded a team-high six assists during the regular season, good for fourth best in the Southern Conference. The junior from Fayetteville, N.C., was responsible for three assists on game-winning goals, including freshman Brian Bell's goal to give Furman a 1-0 victory over #24 South Carolina.
Leather, a defender from Athens, Ga., started all 17 matches as a freshman in defense. Leathers helped Furman limit opposing teams to just 19 goals during the regular season while often being called upon to mark the opponents best forward.
The Paladins open play in the 2004 Southern Conference Men's Soccer Championships when they travel to Boone, N.C., to face Appalachian State tonight at 7:00.
