Furman Set To Host Georgia State In Exhibition Soccer Action

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Furman men's soccer team kicks off its 2004 season Saturday night hosting the Georgia State Panthers in an exhibition match at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium at 5:00 p.m. The Paladins, 6-9-4 overall and 3-2-2 in Southern Conference play last season, return 12 players with starting experience and boast a freshmen class ranked 21st in the country by College Soccer News. Georgia State is coming off of a 9-6-2 season. The Panthers posted a 5-3-1 league record to finish 5th in the Atlantic Sun Conferencei in 2003. Furman players will be available in the Paladin Stadium concourse at 2:00 p.m. Saturday to sign autographs prior to Furman's "Pump Up The Purple" football scrimmage. Head coach Doug Allison's Paladin soccer squad begins regular season play on September 1, when they host the Mercer Bears in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
