Furman Men's Soccer Set To Begin Preseason

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Furman men's soccer team reported to campus Saturday morning to begin preparations for the 2004 season. The Paladins open preseason training Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. Furman returns 12 players with starting experience from last year's squad that finished 6-9-4 overall and 3-2-2 in Southern Conference play. Senior goalkeeper Alex Maslow, a first team All-SoCon selection, and senior captain Luke Barbour return to lead a strong Paladin defense in 2004. "We are bringing in 12 freshmen this year and everyone is excited about getting started," said head coach Doug Allison. "This group has a great attitude and we can not wait to get on the field." Furman opens the regular season on September 1, when the Paladins host Mercer at 7:00 p.m. The 2004 home schedule is highlighted by matches with nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina and Clemson, along with a challenging Southern Conference home slate that includes UNC Greensboro, the College of Charleston and Davidson.
