Greenville, S.C. -- Furman head men's soccer coach Doug Allison has added seven newcomers to his squad for the upcoming 2006 season, it was announced this week. The class includes Michael Erwood (Leewood, Kan.), Jordan Howard (Cary, N.C.), Brian Kerr (Plano, Texas), Connor McNeely (Apex, N.C.), Nasarachi Onyeuku (Fayetteville, Ga.), Ben Stephens (Watkinsville, Ga.) and University of Kentucky transfer Rob Victor.
"We are excited about this year's class," said Allison. "We have brought in a good group of student-athletes who will contribute for us in alot of different ways."
Michael Erwood, who prepped at Blue Valley North High School for head coach Tom Holland, earned first team All-East Kansas League, first team All-Sun Country and second team AAAAAA All-State honors last season. A 6-foot-2 defender, he plays his club soccer for the nationally-ranked Kansas City Legends and head coach Gareth Hughes and is a member of the Kansas Olympic Developmental Program.
Jordan Howard, a 5-foot-10 midfielder, prepped at Southeast Raleigh High School. A member of the North Carolina ODP squad, Howard earned all-conference and 2005 all-state accolades. Howard plays his club soccer for the Karl Fleming coached Greensboro Soccer Club.
Brian Kerr played his prep soccer for Charlie Delong at the Jesuit School in Dallas, Texas. The 5-foot-10 midfielder is a member of the North Texas ODP and Solar Soccer Clubs.
Connor McNeely, a 6-foot-2 goalkeeper, led Apex High School to a 24-0-1 record, Tri-7 Conference title and 2005 AAAA State Championship this past season. The Region III ODP team member earned all-conference and North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association All-State honors. McNeely plays club soccer for coach Bruce Talbot and the `86 CASL Elite.
Nasarachi Onyeuku played his prep soccer at Fayette County High School. The 6-foot-2 defender earned all-county honors in 2003 and 2004 and is a member of the Georgia ODP team. Prior to moving to Georgia, Onyeuku was a member of the Colorado ODP team in 2003 and 2003. Onyeuku plays club soccer for the Atlanta Fire, which produced current Paladins Jon Leathers, Chris Davis and Phillip Raby.
Defender Ben Stephens prepped for coach Colin Connors at Oconee County High School. An all area pick, Stephens earned all-state honors last season. He plays his club soccer for The College Experience and coach Mike Morgan.
Midfielder Rob Victor joins the Furman program with three years of eligibility after playing last season at Kentucky. A native of Aiken, S.C., and graduate of Aiken High School, Victory was named Aiken Standard Player-of-the-Year as a senior. The 6-foot-2 standout was a member of the South Carolina ODP team and Aiken Fire club team.
Furman, 8-8-4 in 2005, returns 10 starters to next year's team. The returnees accounted for every minute in goal and 26 of the Paladins' 28 goals this past season.
