Two Paladins Earn NSCAA Scholar All-America Honors, Four Named To All-South Region Team

Greenville, S.C. -- Furman midfielders Shea Salinas and Patrick Murray have been named to the 2007 NSCAA/adidas Men's Scholar All-America First Team, it has been announced. The pair also garnered first team NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honors while teammates Takato Ban and Lewis Chaloner were named to the second team.

Salinas tallied five goals and nine assists to help Furman to a 19-4-0 record and Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles. The senior from Grapevine, Texas, earned third team NSCAA All-America honors, first team All-SoCon honors and was named first team NSCAA All-South Region. Salinas sports a 3.30 grade point average in health and exercise science. He has been invited, along with Paladin defender Jon Leathers, to attend the MLS Combine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, later this month.

Murray, a first team All-SoCon, NSCAA All-South Region and NSCAA Scholar All-South Region selection, tallied two goals and a league-leading 13 assists as a junior. The attacking midfielder helped Furman reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002 and advance to the second round before falling to eventual national champion Wake Forest. n The Peachtree City, Ga., product holds a 3.43 GPA in accounting.

Ban and Chaloner, both second team NSCAA Scholar All-South Region picks, played key roles in a Furman defense that allowed just 13 goals in 23 matches. Ban, who maintains a 3.37 GPA in business administration, started in Furman's back line in all 23 matches. Chaloner came off of the bench in 12 of Furman's 23 games and posted a 3.35 GPA in political science.
