Boone, NC - Shea Salinas and Dominic Cianciarulo each scored goals and Bryan Amos recorded his third shutout of the season as Furman defeated Appalachian State 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Furman claims one of the top four seeds in the Southern Conference Tournament and will play host to a first round match on Saturday evening.

Salinas opened the scoring for Furman with his third goal of the season at the 16:26 mark. The goal marked the first game-winner this season for Salinas. Freshman forward Brian Martin assisted on the goal, for his team-leading fourth assist of the season.

Furman extended its lead just after halftime as Cianciarulo converted a penalty kick at the 45:53 mark. The goal was the four of the season for the sophomore midfielder, tying him for second on the team in season goals.

Bryan Amos recorded four saves to preserve the shutout for Furman.

With the win, Furman improves to 7-6-4 overall, 4-3-0 in the Southern Conference. The loss drops Appalachian State to 7-8-1 on the season, 2-4-1 in conference action. Furman will return to action on Saturday evening as it plays host to the first round of the Southern Conference Championships. The first round opponent and official start time will be announced later this week.
