Double Overtime Goal Lifts Davidson Over Furman 2-1

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Joey Bass rocketed a shot into the upper righthand corner from the top of the box at the 102:31 mark to give the Davidson Wildcats a 2-1 double overtime victory over Furman in Southern Conference men's soccer action Wednesday night at Stone Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Furman's Brian Bell headed in his first career goal off of a Josh Villalobos corner kick at 61:40 to five the Paladins a 1-0 lead.
Davidson answered less than three minutes later. Cass Baltz took a Mac Wilkie pass for a breakaway on goal and beat Furman keeper Alex Maslow to the left from 12 yards to equalize at 64:23. Bass' game-winner came just 2:31 into the second overtime period. Tom Lavan laid a pass back to the on rushing Bass for the 18-yard winner, his third goal of the year.
Davidson goalkeeper Bart Creaseman earned the win for Davidson, while Maslow recorded four saves for the Paladins in a losing effort.
The Wildcats held a 14-8 edge in shots attempted and 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at 9-9.
Furman, 4-7-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the Southern Conference, returns to action Sunday when it hosts Appalachian State at 2:00 p.m. Davidson, 5-7-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the league, travels to Wofford on Saturday.
