Furman Downs Elon 1-0, Earns First Southern Conference Win

ELON, N.C. - Wes Windsor scored the match's lone goal in the 62nd minute, the second of his career, and Alex Maslow tallied five saves to lead Furman to a 1-0 victory over Elon in men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Rudd Field in Elon, N.C.
Windsor's game-winner came at the 61:20 mark. Freshman Dominic Cianciarulo threaded a pass through the Elon defense to Windsor who netted the decisive goal by beating keeper Taylor Saxe.
The Paladins outshot Elon 17-14 while the Phoenix held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Maslow picked up the win in goal for Furman, recording his third clean sheet of the season. Saxe made five stops in a losing effort for the Phoenix.
Furman improves to 4-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the Southern Conference with the victory, while Elon falls to 3-5-3 overall and 0-2-1 in league play. The win marked Furman's fourth victory in its last five outings.
Furman will return home Saturday night when it hosts Southern Conference rival the College of Charleston in a 6:00 p.m. contest at Stone Soccer Stadium.
