Furman Soccer Downs Gardner-Webb 2-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Furman men's soccer team downed Gardner-Webb 2-0 to earn its first win of the season Sunday night in front of a crowd of 352 at Stone Soccer Stadium.
Nick LeBlanc put the Paladins out front at the 15:04 mark recieving a centering pass from Dominic Cianciarulo and beating Bulldog goalkeeper Tyler Kettering. The goal was LeBlanc's first career tally.
Freshman Shea Salinas capped the scoring by recording his first career goal at 40:35. After Sean Murray was taken down in the box, Furman's Wes Windsor was denied on a penalty kick by a diving save from Kettering. Salinas pounced on the rebound at the right post and beat a sprawling keeper for the 2-0 lead.
"It was nice to get our first win of the season and it was also great to see Shea Salinas score his first goal," said Furman head coach Doug Allison.
Furman's Alex Maslow recorded his second shutout of the year while totaling four saves. Kettering tallied nine saves in a losing effort. The Paladins outshot Gardner-Webb 25-10 and held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. The match featured seven yellow cards, four issued to Furman.
Furman improves to 1-3-1 on the season while the Bulldogs drop to 2-4-0 on the season. Furman returns to action next weekend when it takes part in the Wofford adidas Invitational in Spartanburg. The Paladins face Princeton at 3:30 p.m. next Friday.
