Second Half Surge Leads Coastal Carolina Past Furman 2-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Coastal Carolina exploded for two goals in a three minute span of the second half to down Furman 2-0 in men's soccer action before a crowd of 553 Sunday evening at Stone Soccer Stadium. Furman and Coastal Carolina traded possession for much of the first half with the match scoreless after 45 minutes. At the 54:09 mark, Furman's Jordan Mann recieved his second yellow card and was sent off. The Chanticleers, ranked 15th in the latest College Soccer News poll, responded at the 68:22 mark. Boyzz Khumalo took a Mubarike Chisoni pass to get behind the defense and beat keeper Alex Maslow to put Coastal Carolina in the lead. Just 2:49 later Chisoni tallied his fourth goal of the season playing a chip over Maslow's head from the left corner of the box to stretch the lead to 2-0. The Chanticleers held a 13-6 edge in shots and 4-1 adavantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Aaron Weant recorded his second shutout in an as many games while recording four saves. Maslow collected five saves for the Paladins. Furman, 0-2-0 on the season, returns to action Friday when it hosts Louisville in the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational at 7:00 p.m. Coastal Carolina and Harvard open the two-day tournament with a 4:30 p.m. contest.
