Furman Earns Draw With Sixth-Ranked Wake Forest In Final Exhibition 1-1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Furman men's soccer team wrapped up its preseason schedule on Saturday night playing to a 1-1 draw with sixth-ranked Wake Forest in front of a crowd of 1,147 at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. Junior forward Sean Murray opened the scoring at the 49:49 mark for Furman when he pounced on his own rebound and beat Demon Deacon keeper Brian Edwards to give the Paladins a 1-0 lead. Wake Forest leveled the match at 73:29 as Scott Sealey scored on an assist from Justin Moose. The Demon Deacons outshot Furman 12-4 on the evening while the Paladins held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks and a 4-2 advantage in saves. Goalkeeper Alex Maslow tallied two saves in 45 minutes for Furman before giving way to fellow senior John Hanley who made two saves in the second half. Furman will open its regulars season Wednesday when it hosts the Mercer Bears at Stone Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
