Greenville, S.C. -- Wofford's Zach Aversano scored with 11:41 remaining in regulation to lift the Terriers to a 1-0 victory over a 10-man Furman squad in the third annual "Quinn Game" for Down Syndrome Awareness on Tuesday at Stone Soccer Stadium.

With their third straight victory, the Terriers improved to 3-10-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the Southern Conference. The loss dropped the Paladins to 7-4-2 overall and 1-2-2 in league play at the midway point of the SoCon schedule.

After Furman dominated possession in the opening half hour, a turnover along the back line by the Paladins proved costly. Lucas Altman stole a pass and was taken down by Kyle McLagan before reaching the 18-yard box. McLagan was shown the red card and Furman forced to play a man down the rest of the match.

In the 79th minute, Aversano played a give-and-go with Daniel Mayorga to slip behind the Furman defense on the right side of the box before firing a shot past Paladin goalkeeper Ben Hale for the lone goal of the match.

Despite being down a man for the entire second half, Furman finished with a 10-7 edge in total shots and both teams registered two shots on goal. The Paladins looked to have taken the lead in the 51st minute when Danny Kierath put a shot in the back of the net from the middle of the box, but after a conversation between the referee and the linesmen the goal was waved off and Furman ruled offside.

Hunter Wages stopped two shots to earn the shutout in net for Wofford, while Hale recorded one save for the Paladins.

The Paladins are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they take on the VMI Keydets in Lexington, Va. Log onto FurmanPaladins.com for live streaming and live statistics links for Saturday's SoCon match.
