Greenville, S.C. -- Junior Josiah Baker found the back of the net in the 25th minute and goalkeepers Ben Hale and Jonathan Smith combined on a shutout as Furman men's soccer downed second-ranked Wake Forest, 1-0, in exhibition action on Sunday night at Stone Soccer Stadium.

After Wake Forest controlled much of the possession in the opening minutes, Furman grabbed the lead at 24:38 when Baker played a give-and-go with Cole McLagan before slotting a shot into the lower left-hand corner for the match's lone score.

Hale, who redshirted a year ago after suffering a knee injury in July of 2016 while playing with the United States U-19 National Team, stopped four shots in the first half, including a lunging effort on a Jon Bakero header in the 21st minute. Smith entered the match for the second 45 minutes and preserved the clean sheet.

Wake Forest held a 9-6 edge in total shots and 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Furman, however, outshot the Demon Deacons 4-2 in the second half and held Wake Forest without a shot on target over the final 64 minutes.

Andreu Cases Mundet took the loss in goal for Wake Forest, while substitute goalkeeper Andrew Pannenberg notched the Demon Deacons' only save of the night.
