Greenville, S.C. – Furman men's lacrosse takes the first for the first road test of the 2019 season on Saturday, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a 12:00 p.m. matchup with No. 13/15 North Carolina. Last season, the Paladins nearly knocked off the then-No. 9 Tar Heels, falling 15-14 in overtime.
The Paladins are coming off a 17-9 loss against No. 2 Duke last Saturday night inside Paladin Stadium. Seven different Paladins netted a goal in the season opener, led by William Holcomb and Carson Sorrells, each with two. Freshman Anders Erickson recorded two assists in his first career game as a Paladin, while fellow freshmen Tucker Brown and Jack Barron each netted a goal. Alec Van de Bovenkamp played all 60 minutes in goal for the Paladins, making nine saves on 50 shots (26 on goal).
Saturday serves as the 2019 home opener for the Tar Heels, who opened the season last weekend with a 20-9 victory against Mercer in Roswell, Ga. Coach Joe Breschi's team was led by a balanced scoring attack that featured seven players with multiple goals in the game and three with multiple assists. Junior midfielder Justin Anderson led the way with a hat trick while junior midfielder Tanner Cook had two goals and a career-high three assists.
