Greenville, S.C. – Games against two 2016 NCAA Tournament participants, including 2016 NCAA Tournament Champion North Carolina, highlight Furman's 2017 men's lacrosse schedule, Furman head coach Richie Meade announced today.
In its fourth full season as a varsity sport, Furman men's lacrosse will host seven home games and play seven games on the road. The Paladins, who are competing in the Southern Conference's third year as a lacrosse sponsor, will play seven-straight conference matches to close out the 2017 season.
"This schedule is very difficult," said Meade. "Our guys are going to be up to the challenge."
Furman opens the regular season on February 2, hosting Vermont in Paladin Stadium, before traveling to Columbus, Ohio, for a February 5 matchup with Ohio State. The Paladins then welcome 2016 National Champion North Carolina to Paladin Stadium for a February 11th matchup, before traveling to Baltimore, Md., to take on Sacred Heart on the campus of US Lacrosse on February 18. The Paladins close out the first month of the season at Mount St. Mary's on February 26.
Furman plays host to Michigan on March 4, before closing out the nonconference portion of the season at Penn State on March 7. The Paladins then return to Paladin Stadium, opening Southern Conference play with back-to-back home games against Bellarmine and Mercer on March 18 and 25, respectively.
The Paladins open the final month of the regular season with an April 1 contest at Jacksonville, before hosting 2016 SoCon Champion Air Force in Paladin Stadium on April 8. Furman then travels to High Point for an April 15 showdown, before closing out the home portion of the regular season with a matchup against VMI on April 22. Furman then closes out the 2016 regular season at Richmond on April 29
The Southern Conference Tournament will be held May 4-May 6 in Richmond, Va.
