Paladins End Fall With 11th Place Showing in 49er Collegiate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

The Paladin golf team wrapped up its fall season with an 11th-place showing in the 16-team 49er Collegiate Classic.

 

Furman fired a third round 312 Tuesday at the 7,116-yard, par 72 Cabarrus Country Club to finish 11th overall with a 937 total.  The host 49ers won the event with a three-round 884 total, while Davidson placed second at 904 and Ball State took third at 906.

 

Freshman Jonathan Bowden (Easley, S.C.) paced the Paladins on the day with a four-over 76 to finish tied for 44th at 234, but Ben Goforth (Shelby, N.C.) was the top Furman finisher after a round three 79 put him at 232 and tied for 35th place in the individual standings.  Freshman Jordan Felts (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) carded a 78 on Tuesday to finish tied for 50th at 235, while fellow rookie Garland Ferrell (Greenville, S.C.) shot 79 and tied for 58th at 238.  Redshirt sophomore Chris Gilliland (Chattanooga, Tenn.) rounded out the Furman effort with a non-counting 85 and finished tied for 79th with a 247 tally.

 

Charlotte's Ray Sheedy won the 49er Collegiate title with a three-round four-under par 212 after carding a 71, the only sub-par round of the day, on Tuesday.
