Paladin Golfers Tie for Ninth at Adams Cup

NEWPORT, R.I - Furman's Paladin golf team improved by 22 strokes from rounds one and two and fired a final-day 298 at the Adams Cup of Newport to move from 13th into a tie for ninth with a 938 total at the Newport Country Club.
Freshman Jonathan Bowden (Easley, N.C.) fired the Paladin high in the second round, but rebounded with Furman's low round on Tuesday, shooting an even-par 72 at the 7,244-yard Newport Country Club to finish tied for 64th in the individual standings.
Junior Ben Goforth (Shelby, N.C.) was the Paladins' top finisher, tying with a pair of Texas A&M players for 10th with a 228 total. Freshman Garland Ferrell (Greenville, S.C.) placed 25th overall after a final round 76 put him at 233 for the tournament, and senior T.J. Blandford (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) tied for 45th with a 238 tally after his third round 79. Freshman Jordan Felts of Myrtle Beach finished with a 77 to place 74th at 248.
After four consecutive days of competitive golf, Furman takes a short break before returning to action Sept. 30 at the Mason Rudolph Invitational.
