Paladins Set To Host 37th Furman Intercollegiate

Greenville, S.C. - The Paladin golf team will host the 37th annual Furman Intercollegiate presented by Verizon Wireless this Friday through Sunday, March 24-26, at the Furman University Golf Course.
Laid out at 6,800 yards, with a par of 72 for the annual collegiate tournament, the Furman Golf Course has allowed only five holes in one in 36 years of competition. The list of past individual winners at the Furman Intercollegiate includes Curtis Strange, Jay Haas, Mark Calcavecchia, Brad Faxon of Furman, Billy Andrade, David Duval and Matt Kuchar.
The 2005 tournanent features 17 teams, including two Furman squads. Other competing schools are Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Francis Marion, Iowa, Marshall, Maryland, Samford, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, Winthrop, and Wofford.
Furman's "A" squad tees off hole No. 10 beginning at 12:10 p.m. on Friday, while the "B" sqquad goes off hole No. 1 at 12:10. Furman's "A" squad is paired with Francis Marion and Maryland.
USC-Aiken claimed the 2005 team title with a three-round total of 865 while the Pacers' Daniel Sloan (71-68-71=210) fired a six under par three-round total to take medalists honors.
Tee times in the 37th annual Furman Intercollegiate begin at 8 a.m. all three days.
