The Furman men's golf team will host the 38th Annual Furman Intercollegiate this Friday through Sunday, March 23-25, at the Furman University Golf Course.
Laid out at 6,825 yards, with a par of 72 for the annual collegiate tournament, the Furman Golf Course has allowed only five holes in one in 37 years of competition. The list of past individual winners at the Furman Intercollegiate includes Curtis Strange, Jay Haas, Mark Calcavecchia, Brad Faxon of Furman, Billy Andrade, David Duval and Matt Kuchar.
The 2007 tournament features 20 teams, including defending champion Maryland. Other competing schools are Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Iowa, Jacksonville, Marshall, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Rhode Island, Samford, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Wofford.
Furman tees off hole No. 10 beginning at 11:50 p.m. on Friday. The Paladins are paired with Marshall and Rhode Island in the opening round.
Maryland claimed the 2006 team title with a three-day total of 867. Blaine Peffley of Maryland took individual honors with a three-round 206.
