Sapphire, N.C. -- Junior Jonathan Bowden (77-70=147) carded a one-under-par 70 to lead Furman from 12th place up to a fifth place finish Tuesday at the Western Carolina Intercollegiate at the par-71 Country Club of Sapphire Valley.

Furman posted a final round 295, the second best score of the day, to climb seven spots on Tuesday. Senior Ben Goforth (71-72=143) finished in a tie for sixth at one-over-par after posting a final round 72. Bowden's 70, the second best individual score of the morning, rallied the Easley, S.C., native to a 17th place finish.

Western Carolina (278-287=565) cruised to a 17-stroke victory over second place Vanderbilt. The Catamounts' Andres Cuenca (66-69=135) claimed individual honors finishing four strokes ahead of teammate Dustin Furnari and Samford's Martin Bunt.

The tournament concludes the Paladins' fall schedule.
