Savannah, Ga. -- Furman’s Daniel Bowden fired the low round of the day with a second round 67 to grab third place and help Furman into a tie for sixth after two rounds at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate on Monday.
Bowden (72-67=139), a senior from Easley, S.C., joined Georgia Southern’s Ryan Zabroske in shooting a five-under par 67 at the par-72, 7,016-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club. With a two-round total of five-under 139, Bowden trails tournament leader David Watkins (68-68=136) of East Carolina by three strokes and second place Joe Young of Georgia College & State University by one stroke after 36 holes.
Sophomore Anthony Aloi and senior Garland Ferrell carded rounds of 70 and 71, respectively, to help Furman into a sixth place tie with Jacksonville and Kennesaw State entering the final round. The Paladins trail tournament leader East Carolina (284-280=564) by 21 strokes. Wofford, Old Dominion, Georgia College & State and Georgia Southern rounded out the top five in the 15-team field.
Jack Ulrich (73-76=149), playing as an individual, posted a career-best 73 in opening round play on Monday morning. He is tied for 36th after two rounds.
Final round play in the 54-hole tournament is set for Tuesday morning. Furman will tee-off from No. 1 beginning at 8:45 a.m.
