Savannah, Ga. -- The Furman men's golf team tallied a two-under par 286 in the final round of the Mizuno Southbridge Intercollegiate on Tuesday to secure a ninth place finish.
Senior Ben Goforth led three Paladin golfers at par or better with a two-under 70 on the par-72 layout at the Southbridge Golf Club. Goforth (74-72-70=216) finished the 54-hole event at even par to earn a share of 12th place.
Junior Jonathan Bowden (72-75-71=218) improved on a second round 75 carding a one-under 71 on Tuesday. The Easley, S.C., product finished in a tie for 22nd at two-over par. Matt Hayes (75-78-72=225) rounded out Furman's par of better performances with an even par 72.
Host Georgia Southern (286-284-286=856) grabbed the tournament title defeating Winthrop in a playoff. Winthrop's Kelly Manders (69-68-65=202) carded a final round 65 to claim individual medalist honors at 14-under par.
Furman will return to action November 5-6, in Cullowhee, N.C., at the WCU Intercollegiate Golf Championship.
