Furman 15th After Day One Of Duke Golf Classic

Durham, N.C. -- Furman's Chris Gilliland posted a 79 followed by an even-par 72 to pace the Paladins on the opening day of the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic Sunday at the Duke University Golf Course.

Furman, in 15th after two rounds of the 54-hole tournament, struggled with rounds of 315 and 301. Gilliland's even par effort and sophomore Garland Ferrell's two-over 74 keyed Furman's 14 stroke improvement from round one to round two.

Coastal Carolina holds a four stroke lead entering Monday's final round led by Dustin Johnson's tournament leading seven under par effort. Johnson followed a first round 69 with a second round 68.

Final round action will get underway Monday morning at the 7,105-yard course.
