Adam's Cup of Newport Results

Newport, R.I. -- Garland Ferrell (70-76-74=220) claimed an 11th place finish and Daniel Bowden (75-75-72=222) carded a final round 72 to help Furman (297-295-296=888) to a fifth place finish at the Adam’s Cup of Newport at the par-72, 7,244-yard Newport National Golf Club on Tuesday.

SMU claimed the team title at 12-over 876 with Georgia Southern (291-293-298=882), New Mexico (287-296-301=884), Ohio State (292-292-299=887) and the Paladins rounding out the top five in the 17-team field. UConn’s Jeb Buchanan (69-69-69=207) finished at nine-under 207 to take individual honors by two strokes over second place Ryan Zabroske of Georgia Southern.

Ferrell led the Paladins while Bowden and Matt Broome (76-71-75=222) each earned a share of 16th place. Sophomore Anthony Aloi (76-73-75=224) finished in a tie for 24th.

The Furman men’s golf team returns to action October 19-20, at the Savannah Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga.
