Furman's Robert Jamieson fired a one-over par 73 to grab a share of 11th place, but the Paladin men's golf team struggled with an opening round 307 at the Southern Conference Championships at the Country Club of South Carolina on Sunday.
Jamieson birdied four holes and carded a one-under 35 on his final nine holes to lead Furman while Garland Ferrell posted the Paladins' second best score at four-over 76.
Danny Schmieding, Braden List and Jonathan Bowden each posted an opening round 79 as Furman grabbed a share of eight place with Davidson.
Chattanooga notched a first round 293 to begin the 54-hole event with a two stroke lead over second place Wofford. The Terriers' Garrett Medeiros recorded the low score of the day with a four-under 68 to take a one stroke lead over Appalachian State's Taylor Hines entering the final 36 holes.
Second round action is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with the final round slated for Tuesday morning.
