Reeves Fires 66 To Share Lead With Ferrell; Paladins Extend Advantage At SoCon Men's Championship

Florence, S.C. -- Furman junior Austin Reeves (71-66=137) equalled his career-best round with a six-under par 66 to grab a share of first place with teammate Garland Ferrell (69-68=137) and help the Paladins extend their lead to 11 strokes after two rounds at the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par-72 Country Club of South Carolina on Monday afternoon.

Furman (280-279=559) holds an 11-stroke advantage on second place UNC Greensboro (290-280=570) and 17-stroke edge on third place Georgia Southern (290-286=576) entering Tuesday's final round. The Paladins' nine-under par 279 second round equals their best score of the season and best ever round in SoCon Championship play.

Reeves, a native of Greenville and product of Eastside High School, birdied six holes and played a bogey free round to post the low score of the second round and best round by a Paladins at the SoCon Championship since former Furman standout Brad Faxon fired a 65 on his way to the 1983 title. Reeves notched three birdies on the front nine and recorded birdies on three of the courses four par-fives to climb from sixth into first place.

A Greenville High School product, Ferrell also registered six birdies and fired a four-under 32 on the back nine to rally and grab a share of the lead. Reeves and Ferrell hold a two-stroke edge on UNCG's Ryan Heisey (72-67=139) and three-stroke lead over Paladin senior Daniel Bowden (67-73=140) in fourth place. Bowden totaled 15 pars and managed a birdie at No. 17 to finish at one-over 73 on Monday.

Furman's Anthony Aloi (73-72=145), who holds a share of 14th place after 36 holes in the 54-hole tournament, carded a second round 72 to help Furman to the low round of the tournament.

Final round play is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Furman, playing with second place UNC Greensboro and third place Georgia Southern, will tee-off of No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m.
