Peffley Powers Maryland To Furman Intercollegiate Title

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Maryland's Blaine Peffley recorded a final round 67 to claim individual medalist honors and give the Terps (289-289-289=867) the team title on Sunday afternoon in the 37th Furman Intercollegiate presented by Verizon Wireless at the Furman University Golf Course.

Peffley (70-69-67=206) used seven birdies and fired a 31 on the back nine to claim medalist honors by six strokes over Western Carolina's Matt Cook (70-72-70=212).The three-round total of 206 marks the lowest winning score since Furman's Todd White posted a 206 to win the 1989 Furman Intercollegiate.

Maryland, who carded a one over par 289 in each of the tournament's three rounds, finished 12 strokes ahead of second place Chattanooga (299-286-294=879) and 18 strokes better than third place Samford (294-291-300=885). Wofford (295-296-295=886) and Furman (295-296-298=889) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Garrett Schneider (74-75-73=222) posted a final round one over par to lead Furman. T.J. Blandford was Furman's highest finisher for the weekend recording a six over par 221 to tie for 15th place.

The Paladins return to action April 3-4, at the Bridgestone/Forest Oaks Intercollegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
