Maryland Takes First Round Lead At Furman Intercollegiate, Paladins Third

Greenville, S.C. - The University of Maryland carded a one over par 289 to take a five stroke lead after round one of the 37th annual Furman Intercollegiate presented by Verizon Wireless on Friday at the Furman University Golf Course.
Wofford's Adam Dox (37-32=69) recorded a three under 69 to hold the individual lead after 18 holes in the 54-hole tournament.
Samford fired an opening round 294 to grab second place while both Furman and Wofford shot a seven over 295 to take a share of third place entering Saturday's second round.
Three golfers fired 70 in the first round to place one stroke back of Dox. Blaine Pefflex (33-37=70) of Maryland used a three under 33 on the front nine to share second along with Western Carolina's Matt Cook (34-36=70) and Iowa's Brian DeBuhr (36-34=70).
Senior T.J. Blandford paced the Paladins in opening round action. The Paradise Valley, Ariz, native carded a one under 71 to grab a share of fifth place. Garrett Schneider shot 74 while Jonathan Bowden and Garland Ferrell each posted 75 on day one of the three-day event.
Round two is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning with final round action scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
