Aiken, S.C. -- Senior Garland Ferrell fired back-to-back rounds of 70 to help the Furman men’s golf team into sole possession of third place after two rounds at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par-70 Palmetto Golf Club on Monday.
Ferrell, a Greenville, S.C., native, is in a tie for seventh place at even-par while fellow senior Daniel Bowden (69-72=141), who carded a first round 69, is tied for 11th after 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament. Junior Austin Reeves (72-71=143) is in 16th and Jack Ulrich (70-75=145) holds a share of 23rd place.
The Paladins, who led by two strokes after the morning round, are seven strokes behind tournament leaders Chattanooga and three strokes behind second place Liberty University. Furman holds a two-stroke advantage on fourth place Clemson and four-stroke edge on fifth place Virginia.
The Cavaliers’ Ben Kohles (70-63=133) holds the individual lead on the strength of a second round 63 on Monday afternoon.
Final round action is set for Tuesday morning.
