Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. -- Furman’s Austin Reeves posted a final round 75 to finish at even-par and claim a share of second place on Tuesday at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the par-72 Sawgrass Country Club.
Furman (296-297-307=900) struggled to a third round 307 and slipped from third place to an eighth place finish.
Reeves, a junior, overcame a four-over front nine to shoot one-under on the back nine and finish in a three-way tie for second behind tournament medalist Joe Byun (69-69-74=212) of the University of North Florida. Furman senior Daniel Bowden (79-78-75=232) notched his best round of the tournament with a three-over 75 on Tuesday morning.
No. 27 North Florida (288-294-294=876) claimed the team title by 12 strokes over second place LSU (304-293-291=888). Duke, Alabama, Tennessee, Tulsa, Florida and Furman rounded out the top eight in a field that included eight teams ranked in the top 33 in the nation.
Furman returns to action next week when it takes part in the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C.
