Feb. 13, 2006

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's golf team fired a first round 304 to grab seventh place at the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate Monday at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.

Ben Goforth and Garland Ferrell each carded an opening round three over par 75 to pace the Paladins in their first tournament of the spring. Jonathan Bowden fired a four over 76 while T.J. Blandford and Chris Gilliland each shot 78 in the opening round.

Memphis shot an opening round 295 to hold a one shot lead over Lamar heading into Tuesday's action. Louisville's Derek Fathauer tallied a two under par 70 to take the individual first round lead.

The tournament was scheduled for 36 holes Monday and a final 18 on Tuesday, but a one hour frost delay kept the 18-team field from completing second round action on Monday. The second round will be completed on Tuesday morning followed by final round action Tuesday afternoon.
